“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” — Hebrews 10:24

Many people feel called to care for others, but calling alone does not always make the first step easy. We may notice the driver sitting alone, hear the strain beneath a routine answer, or recognize that a family is facing more than they can carry. Still, we hesitate. We wonder whether we are qualified, prepared, or the right person to respond.

Chaplaincy training helps turn compassion into thoughtful, effective care. It equips people to listen well, respect boundaries, respond appropriately in crisis, understand the realities of life on the road, and offer spiritual support with humility. Training does not give a chaplain every answer. It builds the confidence and judgment to remain present, ask good questions, connect people with resources, and know when additional help is needed.

God often works through ordinary people who are willing to prepare and then act. The need may appear during a brief conversation at a truck stop, a call from a driver in crisis, a hospital visit, a moment of grief, or a relationship built slowly over time. In each setting, preparation helps a chaplain move beyond good intentions and provide care that is compassionate, responsible, and consistent.

Do not wait until you feel perfectly ready. Take the next faithful step. If you are exploring a call to chaplaincy, begin learning what the role requires. If you are already serving, continue sharpening your skills, seeking accountability, and preparing for the conversations and crises you may encounter. Every course, conversation, and practical experience can help you walk through the next open door with greater wisdom.

There are people across the transportation industry who need a caring, trusted presence. CTI exists to help prepare chaplains to meet those needs well—not by having every answer, but by being trained, available, and willing to step through when the opportunity comes.

What step can you take today to become more prepared for the people God may place in your path?
